Chicago conference to relaunch National Alliance Against Racist and Political Repression a huge success

By staff

Chicago, IL - More than a 1200 joined together for an historic gathering on the weekend of November 22 – 24, at the hall of the Chicago Teachers Union, to refound the National Alliance Against Racist and Political Repression. The newly refounded Alliance will concentrate its efforts on building the fight against police crimes and for community control of the police, and it will campaign for the release of political prisoners and the wrongfully convicted.

Longtime leaders of the Black liberation movement Angela Davis and Frank Chapman, along with elected officials, trade unionists, and other progressive activists addressed the packed Nov. 22 rally that opened the conference.

Frank Chapman, the Co-Chair of the Chicago Alliance Against Racist and Political Repression and conference organizer, told the enthusiastic crowd, "We know why we have come here tonight. We are here because we all know and realize that we have come to the point that we have to make a renewed and powerful commitment to end, to overturn the regime of racist and political repression perpetrated against our people by those outlaws who currently occupy the White House and their cohorts here in Chicago, in Saint Louis, Minnesota, Baltimore and over a hundred cities and 28 states represented in this hall tonight."

Conference participants attended workshops and formulated strategies to achieve police accountability and community control of the police, fight to free political prisoners including the wrongfully convicted, advance the struggle against racist and anti LGBTQ violence. Family members who have lost loved ones to police violence shared their stories and discussed their efforts to get justice.

Conference participants unanimously elected Frank Chapman to serve as the interim executive director of the Alliance and created a Continuations Committee that will work to develop the organization.

The National Alliance Against Racist and Political Repression was initially formed in 1973 and was a powerful force in pushing back against the political repression of those times. Conference organizers vow the refounded Alliance will build on the proud history.

Frank Chapman states, "We did not call you to this refounding conference of the National Alliance Against Racist and Political Repression to commemorate or celebrate what we did 46 years ago. We called you here to join us in rededicating ourselves to defend the inalienable democratic right of our people of oppressed nations and workers to rise up and overthrow their oppression in this present moment of history."

Rodney Reed information and mobilization

Greetings:

The state of Texas wants to execute Rodney Reed this November 20th despite the fact that innocence is clear and convincing that he didn't commit the crime. Reed was convicted of killing Stacey Stites a Bastrop, Texas 19 year old caucasian girl whom Rodney dated. She was engaged to an abusive Glibbing, Texas police officer Jimmy Fennell.

Evidence in this case does not just reveal that he was abusive to Stacey, however he terrorized residents in the community as he was jealous and demonstrated just how jealous and angry he could become by killing Stacey.

There is a letter-dive on the behalf of Rodney, massive demonstrations across the State of Texas will kick off starting November 1, 2019 as pressure will intensify leading to his possible November 20th execution date.

I say sign the letter, send it in immediately, and fly the hashtag #Freerodneyreed over your social media pages. In the U.S. its lilely that you would receive the death death for the murder of a white woman. In the U.S. its likely that a black or brown person will be provided no credibility over a police officer. Fennell was found to be deceptive in two polygraph examinations relevant to Stacey.

The only evidence reliable against Rodney is that he dated a white woman. We must not allow this execution to take place. Innocence must matter and in the Reed case, innocence is overwhelming. The evidence that clears Rodney is the same evidence that convicts Fennell. Innocence have been one hundred percent ignored in this case.

As a member of Rodney Reed support team I am calling on all who receive this email to consider contacting the Editors over the Chicago Reader, Chicago Triune, and Chicago Suntimes. Not only proclaim the innocence of Reed, but request that their editorial board denounce the possible execution of Rodney Reed.

We call on you the people to stand up against this injustice.

If you would like to send a support letter to the Governor and the Pardons and Parole board who will rule on Reed;s clemency petition that is currently before them, click on the below download. Make 2 copies. Send a copy to both addresses. We seek all Organizations and Groups' support by writing a letter on the behalf of Rodney before November 4th.

On Monday morning Rodney attorneys filed a new petition of support before the courts. See petition below.

Now is the time to step up and to help Mr. Reed as the clock clicks against him. Innocence must matter! And that is something that have been greatly ignored by the Texas courts. We are appealing to the Governor of Texas Greg Abbott and requesting that he do the right thing as we demonstrate and mobilize to save the life of Rodney and to bring him home to his family.

The Reed family extends thanks to all who are standing with them to overturn this injustice. Rodney is innocent, and we just call on Texas to get it right, says Rodrick Reed the brother of Rodney.

Sincerely:

Mr. Mark A. Clements
